Insurance Restoration Made Simple- 13 steps to handle your insurance claim
Below is an outline of how insurance companies normally handle insurance claims. Each insurance company is different, but this is generally how the process goes. You can expect your insurance company to operate in a similar fashion.
1. Claim is made.
2. Inspection is scheduled
3. Insurance Estimate of damages is sent to the insured. 7-10 business days after the inspection.
4. The contractor and Homeowner review the appraisal and determine if a supplement is needed.
5. If a supplement is needed, the contractor creates estimate for the homeowner to send to the insurance company.
6. Insurance reviews the supplemental request.
7. The request is accepted, denied, or modified.
8. Returned Appraisal is sent to the insured. 5-7 business days after the request is received.
9. Contractor and Homeowner review the appraisal and determine if acceptable.
10. If acceptable, a signed SOW is sent to Insurance.
11. A lump-sum payout for Actual Cash Value minus the deductible is sent to the insured.
12. After work is complete, the homeowner sends a final invoice to insurance.
13. Final payment including depreciation and any expenses (such as a tarp service) is made to homeowner.
